The Hazelton Hotel, one of Toronto’s landmark luxury hotels, will remain open during a renovation slated to be completed by early summer 2020.

“The Hazelton was born with the vision of bringing international luxury to Toronto,” says Hani Roustom, managing director, The Hazelton Hotel. “This exciting next step reasserts our passion for continually elevating the standard of luxury within our city, as well as within the wider global hospitality industry.”

The Yabu Pushelberg-designed property opened its doors in 2008. The 2020 renovation will also be undertaken by the renowned design firm.

“The Hazelton Hotel was one of our first major interior projects, and to have the opportunity to re-envision the hotel’s experience was an evolution as designers, expanding on our original vision through subtle, incremental design decisions that will invigorate the guest experience,” says George Yabu, found partner, Yabu Pushelberg.

The renovation includes:

  • a warm, luxurious reimagined lobby in a palette of soft creams and pewters with custom-designed, oversized furniture pieces, accented by the original deep-green stone slab flooring and leather panelling;
  • a redesign of the hotel’s 77 guestrooms and three suites that will feature layered textures, modern technologies and a chic contemporary palette (soft greys with pops of teal, along with bronze panelling and rose-tinted mirrors);
  • and a refresh of the property’s Spa by Valmont that will include a refined spa space and gym, as well as a new couples’ massage room.

Food and beverage venues and menus will also be given a revamp. Restauranteur and celebrity chef Mark McEwan’s signature ONE Restaurant and its adjacent lounge will be given a sleek new design. New menus by McEwan and the restaurant’s executive chef, Darby Piquette, will offer diverse yet approachable fare driven by the freshest ingredients.

“ONE restaurant has become known as a Yorkville hotspot and I am excited for the opportunity to work with Yabu Pushelberg again to create a stylish setting that complements ONE’s contemporary menus,” said McEwan, chef and founder, The McEwan Group.
