Treehouse Hotels coming to U.S.

Treehouse Hotels has selected Miami’s Brickell neighbourhood as the location for its first U.S. property, which is expected to open in 2023.

Operated by SH Hotels & Resorts, an affiliate of global private investment firm Starwood Capital Group, Treehouse Hotels is the sister brand to 1 Hotels.  It debuted in London in 2019.

“Downtown Miami, Brickell is the perfect place for Treehouse,” said Starwood Capital Group chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht. “Like its London counterpart, Treehouse Brickell will be as much a destination for travellers as a local hangout and will introduce a new kind of thoughtful, fun and imaginative hospitality experience to the area.”

Designed in collaboration with Rockwell Group and SHoP Architects, the 191-room property will be located in JDS Development Group’s 1 Southside Park, a mixed-use development that includes a park with basketball courts, playgrounds for different age groups, and public art as well as residential, commercial, office, event and wellness spaces.

Like 1 Hotels, Treehouse Hotels is rooted in sustainability. The property’s design will incorporate a wide range of energy, water and environmental design strategies to minimize its impact on the environment. These features will include rainwater harvesting and reuse, electric car charging stations, bike parking and the use of low carbon energy materials.

In addition, its interior spaces will be filled with repurposed materials and found objects, like reclaimed flooring, wood beams and warm, mismatched lighting.

A highlight of the property will be its two rooftop pools, both of which will offer views of the Miami skyline and several bar and snack options. The hotel will also have a main dining area delivering a casual, indoor/outdoor experience with a designated terrace and private bar. Design details will include glowing lanterns, a custom mural, rocking chairs and Cuban-tiled floors.

Treehouse Brickell’s 25th-floor event space will feature panoramic views, high ceilings and expansive outdoor spaces with lush vegetation throughout. A wood-frame structure with exposed ceilings defines the space and is adaptable to a variety of group sizes.

“We are proud to partner with industry trailblazer Barry Sternlicht to create a Treehouse at 1 Southside Park,” said Michael Stern, founder and CEO, JDS Development Group. “Barry continually raises the bar for exceptional experiences in hospitality, and our location at 1 Southside Park will provide the perfect environment to welcome Treehouse to Brickell, Miami and celebrate the hotel’s first U.S. location.”
